Dr. Brian Y. Kim is a board-certified UCI Health specialist in family and sports medicine. He provides multidisciplinary care for active individuals, with a particular focus on runners and female athletes. He currently serves as a team physician for the UC Irvine athletics program.
Kim earned his medical degree at UC Irvine and then completed an internship and residency in family medicine at UCLA. He also completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at UCLA, where he conducted research on female athletes and bone stress injuries in collegiate runners. He also holds a master’s degree in nutrition science from Columbia University, with an emphasis in sports nutrition. His clinical interests include metabolic bone health, overuse injuries, sports health and nutrition.
Kim has worked extensively with athletes at all levels and in various sports, including track and field, volleyball, ski and snowboarding, tennis, soccer, swim, cycling, golf and gymnastics. He has also served as the primary physician on-site for the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, where he provided integrative, collaborative and multidisciplinary care for Olympic-level athletes.
He believes that exercise is medicine. His goal is to encourage a healthy lifestyle for all his patients.
